This Slow Cooker Honey Garlic Chicken Thighs recipe makes incredibly tender chicken in a sweet, sticky sauce.

We like to serve this craving chicken over steamed rice with a side of Cream cheese wontons for a full meal.

Slow cooker meals are my favorite because you can easily prep the meal in the morning, enjoy your day, and then go back to a great cooked meal for dinner.

Slow Cooker Honey Garlic Chicken Thighs

These chicken thighs are incredibly tender in a finger-licking sweet and salty sauce!

Ingredients needed

  • Chicken thighsboneless, skinless thighs work best, but you can also use drumsticks or even chicken breast
  • Soya saucelow sodium
  • Honey
  • Hoisin sauce
  • Ketchup
  • Garlic
  • Ginger
  • rice vinegar
  • Red pepper flakesadjust to your preferred spice level
  • Cornstarchused to thicken sauce

I’m still amazed at how tasty this chicken tastes with just a few basic ingredients. I always keep these ingredients handy because they can really jazz up any recipe!

How to Make Slow Cooker Honey Garlic Chicken

The slow cooker is great any time of the year, but I especially like to use it when I have a busy day planned. Using the slow cooker allows me to prep the recipe ahead of time, toss everything in the slow cooker, and then come back to a delicious meal after a busy day.

COMBINE THE SAUCE Start by placing the chicken thighs in the bottom of your slow cooker in an even layer. Whisk all the sauce ingredients together (minus the cornstarch) and pour over the chicken thighs.

LOW TEMPERATURE COOKING Put the slow cooker on low heat and cook for 6 hours. You can also cook it on high for just 3-4 hours, but I feel the chicken is more tender when cooked on low.

THICKEN THE SAUCE Once the chicken is cooked, prepare a porridge with the cornstarch and a little water and mix it with the sauce in the slow cooker. Increase the heat to high and cook an additional 15 minutes, until the sauce has thickened.

SERVE OVER RICE Chicken is fantastic served whole or shredded. It’s so tender! Carefully place it on a bed of rice and pour some extra sauce on top. Garnish with sesame seeds and diced green onions if desired.

Make Ahead and Recipe Variations

PREPARE YOURSELVES You can easily make this recipe ahead of time by placing the chicken thighs and sauce ingredients in a zip lock bag and storing in the fridge for up to 3 days.

Simply pour all the ingredients into the slow cooker when you’re ready to prepare.


  • Try using chicken breasts instead of chicken thighs.
  • If you don’t have hoisin sauce, you can swap with oyster sauce.
  • Adjust the spice level by using more or less red pepper flakes.
  • Want a thicker sauce? Increase the amount of cornstarch to make the sauce even thicker.

  • 2 Kgs boneless skinless chicken thighs

For the sauce:

  • Chopped off soya sauce, low sodium
  • Chopped off Honey
  • 3 soup hoisin sauce
  • 2 soup ketchup
  • 5 teaspoon Garlic, chopped
  • 2 teaspoon Ginger, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon rice wine vinegar
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 2 soup cornstarch


  • Place the chicken thighs in the bottom of your slow cooker in an even layer.

  • Combine all sauce ingredients (MINUS CORNSTARCH) in a small bowl and whisk to combine. Pour the sauce over the chicken thighs and cook on LOW for 6 hours. OR you can cook on HIGH for 3-4 hours.

  • Once the chicken is cooked, combine the cornstarch and 2 tablespoons cold water in a small dish and stir. Pour this cornstarch slurry into the sauce in the slow cooker and turn the heat to HIGH. Cover with a lid and cook an additional 15 minutes, until the sauce thickens.

  • You can either shred the chicken thighs in the slow cooker or serve them whole. Serve the chicken over steamed rice and garnish with sliced ​​green onions and sesame seeds if desired. Enjoy!

You can easily prepare the ingredients up to 3 days in advance. Combine sauce and chicken in a zip lock bag and store in refrigerator for up to 3 days. Pour the ingredients into the slow cooker and cook according to the recipe instructions.
